Nearby the Carob House there are lovely sandy beaches with crystal clear water, ideal for relaxating and enjoying the sea and sun. All beaches have sunbeds, umbrellas and small cafes with Cretan snacks.

Tersanas: 500m away from the Carob House you can find Tersanas. A small lake-like bay, with shallow waters, ideal for babies and children.
Kalathas: 3 kms away from the Carob House you will see the sandy beach of Kalathas, ideal for snorkeling, diving or spear gun.
Stavros: 3 kms away from the Carob House, at the picturesque marina of Stavros, you will recognize the beach of Zorbas (the movie), where some of the most famous scenes were shot. Don?t miss the amazing colours of the sea early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
Heading towards the west side, the Beach Pahia Ammos (Thick Sand) will mesmerize you with the transparent waters and the sand of tiny small broken shells. Taste the delicious cuisine of Malika, at the small tavern ?Sunset?, located literally on the sand, while gaze at the amazing sunset.
Marathi: If you want to live the unique experience of swimming while looking at the White Mountains, you can do it at 7kms away from the Carob House, at the beach of Marathi and its small marina for the local fishermen. A beach ideal for children and always wind-proof. Many small taverns will offer you fresh fish, ouzo and wine.
Satan Bay: 7kms from the Carob House, towards the airport you will find the village Mouzouras. Follow the signs and you will discover the small beach ?Satan Bay? famous for its turquoise waters. A small paradise with a devilish name!!

In a 4-5kms distance you can visit two very beautiful and of unique architecture Monasteries, built by the Venetians

1. The Monastery of the Holy Trinity. Built in the 17th century by a Venice-Cretan family. A big monastery of unique architecture, with a beautiful garden and a small museum where you can see manuscripts, books, ecclesiastical items and icons of the 16th and 17th century. Today, some monks cultivate organic products.
2. Gouverneto Monastery or the Lady of Angels was built in the 16th century and is one of the oldest monasteries in Crete. It is a small monastery which looks like a Venetian fortress. On its North, you can follow a stone trail path, made by the monks, leading you (approximately in 1 hr) to a small gorge where the oldest monastery of the Catholic is built within the rocks. On your way you will pass from the cave of the Bear, named after a stalagmite that looked like a bear. The legend has it that Virgin Mary petrified the bear because it was drinking the monks? water.
